Fans of the Dragon Quest series have been buzzing with rumors surrounding a remake of the seventh entry, Dragon Quest VII, which is supposedly set to launch between late 2026 and early 2027.
According to recent leaks posted by MP1st, the remake is slated for release before March 2027, with internal documents pointing to it being one of several major projects from the publisher, aimed at being delivered during the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2026 or shortly thereafter.
While the scope of the project is still unclear, it’s expected to be more substantial than the HD-2D remakes we’ve seen in recent years. The publisher’s use of the term “remake” hints at possible enhancements beyond the 3DS version of the game, which itself made significant improvements over the original PlayStation 1 release. However, it’s unlikely that it will rival the scope of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, as indicated by reliable sources like Jason Schreier.
For players who missed the original PlayStation version of Dragon Quest VII or never played the 3DS remake, this upcoming project could provide an exciting chance to experience the game in a new light. However, prospective players should prepare for a long journey – Dragon Quest VII is one of the longest entries in the series, with a playthrough easily extending beyond 80 hours.
Although the Dragon Quest VII remake has yet to be officially announced, fans of the franchise still have plenty to look forward to in the meantime. The Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D remake is set to drop this October, worldwide.
