Dune: Awakening, the survival MMO set in the legendary world of Arrakis, has taken the gaming world by storm, reaching over 1 million copies sold within just two weeks of its launch. Developer Funcom announced the milestone earlier today, proudly calling it the studio’s “fastest-selling game ever.” The launch on June 10 has been nothing short of a success, with the game boasting a stellar “very positive” user review rating on Steam.
The game’s success has been nothing short of overwhelming. 
Funcom shared their gratitude, noting, “To put it into perspective, it took Conan Exiles one year to reach this number. We’re truly humbled and thankful for this reception.” The journey from the game’s debut has been described as a “Coriolis storm,” with players sharing a host of unforgettable experiences-from near-death encounters with the giant sandworms (Shai-Hulud) to epic vehicle stunts. As Funcom puts it, “We salute you, Sleepers.”
As if to prove the game’s rapid rise, Dune: Awakening hit over 142,000 concurrent players on Steam within hours of launching, and just last weekend, the game hit a new high of 189,333 players. The survival climb from a mere peasant to a warlord of Arrakis is truly a rewarding journey, though some technical hiccups and underwhelming combat slightly hinder the experience.
Despite some rough edges, such as its chaotic endgame and a few technical bugs, Dune: Awakening stands out with its wonderful worldbuilding and sense of discovery. The developers at Funcom are already working to improve the PvP experience in the Deep Desert, with changes to prevent griefing. They’re also considering adjustments to the Ornithopter, making it less of a problem in PvP situations while keeping its role in the game balanced.
