Dune: Awakening Developer Tackles PvP and Deep Desert Challenges as Concurrent Player Count Hits Record High

Funcom, the studio behind the highly anticipated survival MMO Dune: Awakening, has confirmed that they are actively working on resolving several issues troubling players, particularly those venturing into the unforgiving Deep Desert. Among the biggest complaints are the instant respawn times in PvP areas, which have caused frustration for many. Players have reported that even after a long and hard-fought battle, the losing team can respawn instantly in the same area, disrupting the flow of gameplay.

Chief Creative Officer Joel Bylos responded to a Reddit thread where user rustypipe7889 outlined the PvP problems, assuring the community that changes are in the works. ‘We are working on a bunch of changes/fixes to these things. Please bear with us,’ Bylos commented, addressing concerns about the ongoing PvP issues that have been highlighted in multiple posts.

Another ongoing issue revolves around the lack of content for PvE players, especially in the Deep Desert, which many find barren and uninviting. As pointed out by Darqsat, the endgame content feels incomplete, with little incentive for PvE players to explore further into the desert. According to them, ‘End game is a total mess. There’s nothing else in [Deep Desert] to attract PvE players, so DD usually empty and consists only of crazy PvP tryhards.’ This sentiment echoes the feelings of many players who feel that the PvE experience ends prematurely after reaching Tier 5 and acquiring Duraluminium. Many players leave after hitting this wall, with no compelling reason to continue.

Despite these challenges, Dune: Awakening has seen a phenomenal player count. Over the weekend, the game set a new concurrent user peak, with 189,333 players logging in at the same time. The game launched with a bang, receiving a ‘very positive’ rating on Steam and surpassing 142,000 concurrent players within hours of its release on June 10.

While Funcom works on addressing these issues, players can expect fixes for the PvP and Deep Desert concerns. Players new to the game can check out a range of Dune: Awakening classes and resource guides to help them survive the harsh environment of Arrakis.
