More ‘Hagga-Basin-Like’ Maps Coming to Dune: Awakening Along with Regular PvE Updates

Dune: Awakening is still in its early days, having launched just over a week ago, and players are already eagerly anticipating what’s next for the game. Though we may have to wait a little while for any major updates, there are exciting plans on the horizon, especially when it comes to new maps.

Funcom’s community manager, Ignasis Miró Sastre, revealed that more ‘Hagga-Basin-like’ maps will be introduced in future updates. This was shared in a post on the game’s official Discord server, where Sastre commented, ‘I think Joel kinda leaked in the past that we plan to add more Hagga-Basin-like maps in the future as part of new content.’

For those unfamiliar, Hagga Basin is the game’s starting area, offering a less intense experience compared to the deeper, more PvP-focused regions of the desert. Players love it for its calm exploration, without the same threat of horror stories that come with venturing into the deeper desert. Given its popularity, the idea of more areas like Hagga Basin has been well-received by fans, who are hoping for more fresh, well-curated locations that allow for peaceful exploration on Arrakis.

Better yet, these updates are expected to be free of charge. Sastre clarified that ‘Content will come as part of free updates, as far as I am aware. If it ever comes as part of a paid package, I imagine it would be because it’s something big.’ So, fans can rejoice knowing that the game’s future content will remain accessible, with only optional DLCs for those who want to support the game further. Funcom also added a touch of humor to the situation, saying, ‘We can actually afford rent, lights, and pineapple on pizza.’

In addition to the new maps, players can expect more content to drop every 3 to 4 months. In a Reddit AMA, Funcom confirmed that each major update will feature new storylines and PvE content, which will be released simultaneously with DLCs. This schedule aims to keep the community engaged and invested in the game’s ongoing evolution.

Given the game’s already impressive launch, which saw 189,333 concurrent players over the past weekend, the upcoming updates have a lot of potential to further boost its popularity. While a fixed roadmap might not be shared, Funcom is committed to maintaining an open line of communication with players about the future of Dune: Awakening.
