Funcom’s massive multiplayer survival game, Dune: Awakening, is now officially available to all players after an impressive head-start weekend. To celebrate, a new gameplay trailer has been unveiled, showcasing the game’s exciting features. Following a fantastic start, over 117,000 players participated in the head-start weekend, which was exclusive to those who pre-ordered the deluxe edition of the game.
However, the game is now open to everyone, even those who bought the standard edition, and players can now explore the vast world of Arrakis.
The launch of Dune: Awakening on PC has been a success, but console players will have to wait until 2026. While it was expected that the game would initially release on PC, Funcom confirmed that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions won’t arrive until sometime in 2026. Despite this delay, the studio has kept the momentum going by debuting a new trailer that compiles the best moments from previous previews.
Yesterday, ahead of today’s launch, Funcom’s CEO and CTO, Rui Casais, delivered a heartfelt message to players, thanking those who had already joined the game and assuring them that the team is working hard to address any issues. Casais acknowledged the long queue times and assured players that more servers will be added to balance player distribution, promising that the game will have enough capacity for everyone. “We’re working round the clock to improve the experience,” Casais said, asking for continued patience during the early days of the launch.
Casais also expressed his excitement about this launch, noting that Funcom has been creating online worlds for 25 years, and this release is among the most exciting of his career. He encouraged players to stick with the game, as there are years’ worth of plans ahead for Dune: Awakening.
Players can also grab the Season Pass, which comes with the Wildlife of Arrakis DLC. This DLC includes in-game statues that honor some of Arrakis’ toughest creatures: the sandworm, chiroptera, kulon, and Muad’Dib. Additional DLCs will be released through 2026, with free updates planned in between.
