The latest update for Dune: Awakening, version 1.1.0.0, brings exciting changes to the game, enhancing both gameplay and player experience.
Developer Funcom, led by creative director Joel Bylos, has introduced several major improvements, including adjustments to ornithopters, the removal of restrictions for visiting sietches, and most importantly, a significant shift in how the Deep Desert zones function.
One of the most talked-about updates is the transformation of the southern half of the Deep Desert into a PvE zone. Players who prefer to avoid PvP encounters can now freely explore, harvest valuable resources, and enjoy a less dangerous experience in these areas. However, venturing further north still opens up the PvP zones, where high-reward resources like Plasteel plates are waiting for those who dare to fight for them. Risk-takers can earn big rewards, but the danger is always high in these regions.
The number of spice fields has also seen adjustments. The active medium spice fields have been reduced from 8 to 6, while the number of small spice fields has been slightly increased, from 20 to 22. Players looking for the largest spice fields will still need to head north, where the most valuable resources are located. Additionally, the spawn rates for Titanium and Stravidium in PvE zones have been decreased, making these materials harder to find unless you venture into the PvP zones. Respawn times for these materials have also been extended from 30 to 45 minutes.
Vehicle changes are also included in this patch. The Scout Ornithopters, when equipped with rocket launchers, now experience a 20% reduction in speed and maneuverability. Assault Ornithopters also face a 10% decrease in speed. These adjustments are aimed at making gameplay more strategic and balancing vehicle dynamics in combat scenarios.
Another significant change is the removal of the restrictions on visiting other sietches. Players are now free to explore any sietch in their world and claim land wherever they desire. This newfound freedom allows for greater flexibility and collaboration within the game world. The patch also includes a variety of bug fixes and stability improvements to smooth out the overall gameplay experience.
However, players were expecting some additional changes, particularly regarding the Landsraad, which were mentioned in previous statements by Bylos but were not included in this update. While some players, especially those enjoying PvP, believe the game was already well-balanced, many others are excited about the new changes, particularly those who prefer PvE gameplay. Funcom has confirmed that they will continue to adapt and balance the game based on player feedback, so it will be interesting to see how the game evolves in the months ahead.

Why did they remove the spice fields in the south though? It’s harder to find them now, and I’m not interested in PvP 🧐
