Watches have the ability to captivate us for a multitude of reasons: their history, complexity, materials, and more. Yet, for many watch enthusiasts, design often takes the crown. This is especially true for DWISS, a Swiss brand that has racked up 27 international design awards since its founding in 2011. It’s clear the brand understands the importance of design.
The DWISS Model A1, the brand’s latest release, balances simplicity with advanced technology, representing the company’s most technically sophisticated timepiece to date.
The brand was established by Rafael Simoes Miranda after designing hundreds of watches for major brands. Miranda’s vision? To create watches that are not just timepieces but functional works of art that push the boundaries of both design and technology. This approach has proven successful, with the brand earning prestigious awards such as the Red Dot and iF design awards
. From wandering hours complications to avant-garde tourbillons, DWISS has consistently amazed with its innovative designs.
The DWISS Model A1 may just be the brand’s most versatile watch yet. With a 40mm stainless-steel case and 100m water resistance, it remains sleek and compact at just 10.8mm thick and 45.5mm lug-to-lug. The dimensions alone suggest it’s designed for nearly any wrist, but its wearability is further enhanced by the integrated bracelet with a nearly seamless butterfly clasp.
The eight-sided case and integrated bracelet are sharp, modern, and angular, with meticulous finishing. A closer look reveals Miranda’s signature design touches, like the toothed case profile at 9 o’clock and the highly functional screw-down crown.
Inside, the Model A1 features the La Joux-Perret G100 Soigné automatic movement, which is Swiss-made and boasts a 68-hour power reserve. Regulated in four positions for accuracy, it performs at +7/-7 seconds/day. The decorated movement showcases Geneva stripes, perlage, and blue screws, all visible behind a sapphire caseback.
The Model A1 is available in four striking dial colors: black, blue, green, and white, each with black indices. The dials are adorned with a unique tapisseries pattern, with sharp angles contrasted by the soft curves of the hands and indices. Instead of conventional luminous paint for the indices, DWISS has opted for Super-LumiNova C1 X1 BL blocks, offering four times the luminosity of traditional paint
. This choice creates stunning depth during the day and exceptional brightness at night. Even the date window at 3 o’clock is luminous, ensuring visibility in the dark while maintaining design consistency.
To celebrate the launch, DWISS will auction a unique ‘Ghost’ edition of the Model A1 on June 24th. This exclusive piece (serial number 001) features a white dial, white hands, and white luminous blocks. The auction will last for just 24 hours, providing collectors with the chance to own this one-of-a-kind timepiece. The Model A1 will be limited to only 500 numbered pieces, each priced at $1,600 USD.
