Dying Light: The Beast Reveals 30-Minute Gameplay Walkthrough

After much anticipation, Techland has not only announced the official release date for Dying Light: The Beast, but also shared an exciting 30-minute gameplay walkthrough. In this mission, the protagonist, Kyle Crane, returns from the original Dying Light game (voiced by Roger Craig Smith – check out our exclusive interview with him here). Kyle is on a mission to investigate an abandoned chemical factory located south of the city, run by a mysterious group known as the Baron’s men. Inside the factory, sinister experiments on Chimeras – mutated zombie creatures central to the game’s storyline – are being conducted.

Gameplay in Dying Light: The Beast emphasizes smart survival tactics over pure combat. Unlike the typical hack-and-slash zombie games, The Beast pushes players to use their wits rather than simply attacking enemies head-on. For example, large groups of zombies, dubbed Biters, are best dealt with by creating distractions or using decoys, rather than taking them on directly.

During the walkthrough, Kyle, with the help of his ally Olivia, follows clues to uncover the truth behind the Baron’s men and their experiments. Along the way, Kyle faces off against the Virals – a faster, more dangerous breed of zombie with some human-like intelligence and behaviors. As night falls, the stakes rise even higher, with more danger lurking around every corner. The game thrives on a tense atmosphere, especially as dusk sets in and the environment grows more perilous.

Exploring abandoned structures like the chemical factory serves two purposes: they act as both potential traps and valuable resource hubs. Scavenging for crafting materials and weapons is crucial for survival. The new Survivor Sense mechanic helps players identify nearby enemies and figure out how to approach different threats.

The game also introduces a dynamic weather system, which adds realism and variability to the environments of Castor Woods. The open world is rich in diverse biomes such as swamps, national parks, and industrial zones, each offering unique challenges and visuals. Players can expect a more immersive and dynamic world, where raider activity outside safe zones introduces additional challenges and unpredictable moments.

In an exciting twist, Kyle steals a pickup truck during the mission, showcasing the new vehicle mechanics in Dying Light: The Beast. Vehicles provide a faster way to traverse the world and engage with zombie hordes. However, they aren’t invincible, as they can take damage, and fuel scarcity becomes an issue.

The walkthrough concludes with a face-off against a Chimera, one of the massive mutated monsters in the game. Here, we get a closer look at the Beast Meter, a special ability gauge that powers up Kyle’s Beast Mode, temporarily granting him superhuman strength. This is a powerful ability Kyle gains from years of experiments.

Dying Light: The Beast launches on August 22 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
