Dying Light: Retouched Update Adds Major Enhancements

Techland is gearing up to release a free update for Dying Light, named Dying Light: Retouched, set to go live on June 26, 2025. While it’s not a full remaster, the update adds significant improvements that fans of the game have been eagerly awaiting. These updates are part of Techland’s celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Dying Light’s original release.

As franchise director Tymon Smektała explained, the update is about refining the game you already love rather than overhauling it entirely.

The Retouched update brings a range of visual upgrades, showcasing the evolution of the game since its release. From subtle tweaks like refined textures on cement floors and wooden walls to improvements that reflect years of technical development, the update will elevate the experience for long-time fans. Grzegorz Świstowski, the technical game director at Techland, shared that the improvements are a result of years of learning how to maximize the capabilities of the existing tech, allowing them to apply these insights to the game’s older assets.

But the update isn’t all about visual enhancements. The music also gets a touch-up, with Paweł Blaszczak, the original composer, returning to remaster the entire soundtrack, as well as adding new tracks to complement the score. It’s a free update for all platforms for players who own the original game, even on older systems like PS4 and Xbox One. However, Techland has made it clear that the updates may vary by platform, so don’t expect the PS4 version to look the same as the PS5 version.
