Elden Ring Nightreign Player Takes a Damage-Stacking Weapon To Its Highest Heights, Before It All Comes Crashing Down

Elden Ring Nightreign offers some of the best loot for players looking to conquer the Nightlords.

But just how powerful can a weapon truly become? One player, a Japanese YouTuber known as mintius, decided to test the limits of a rare weapon-and the results were both spectacular and disastrous.

Mintius obtained the Marais Executioner Sword, a unique weapon in Nightreign that increases its attack power each time an enemy is defeated. However, the boost is typically limited to a certain extent. Given the time constraints in Nightreign, due to the approaching storm, this weapon doesn’t usually have the opportunity to escalate its power too much. But mintius managed to find the perfect enemy spawns and scenarios to push it to its absolute limit-and beyond.

According to Automaton’s translation, mintius spent about an hour hunting mobs in the Wormface encounter with the Marais Executioner Sword, testing how far the sword’s power could scale. After slaying 725 enemies, the weapon’s attack power reached the damage cap of 9,999. But then, something extraordinary happened: after killing the 727th enemy, mintius saw their damage drop to zero and was killed. This sudden loss of power is believed to be due to a phenomenon known as “overflow,” where the weapon’s damage output wraps around from the max value to the minimum.

The theory here is that, similar to the well-known Gandhi bug in Civilization, reaching the upper damage cap may have caused the damage values to roll over and reset to the lowest point. Mintius plans to continue experimenting with the Marais Executioner Sword to discover its true limits and potential. They’re even thinking about testing it with a plunging attack on a Flame Chariot to see just how high the damage numbers can go. It’s bound to get interesting!

For players in Elden Ring Nightreign, consider this a lesson not to get too greedy with the Marais Executioner Sword. Sure, it’s a great weapon, but maybe don’t spend an entire hour trying to push it to its highest possible damage output. Sometimes, hubris can lead to a spectacular fall.
