Elden Ring Nightreign Revive Bars: Why They Get Harder and How to Tackle Them

Elden Ring Nightreign introduced an intriguing co-op mechanic where fallen players can be revived by their teammates, but this mechanic has some hidden complexities that can make reviving teammates increasingly challenging as the game progresses. When players fall in battle, a purple bar appears around their health dial. To revive them, teammates must damage the bar to whittle it down.

Initially, it’s a simple task, but things get tricky as players experience multiple deaths.

At first, when a player falls, only one pip of the purple bar appears, which can be cleared with ease. However, the challenge escalates with each subsequent death. By the time the player hits their third death, the entire bar is filled with purple, and clearing it becomes exponentially harder while the team is simultaneously fending off Nightlords.

Thanks to YouTuber Zullie the Witch, we now have a better understanding of the hidden mechanics at play. Zullie’s investigation reveals that after the first fall, the purple bar starts at 40 HP per segment. By the second death, it’s 45 HP per segment, and by the third, it’s a staggering 80 HP per segment. That adds up to a whopping 240 HP in total if you’re on three bars, making it incredibly difficult to revive a teammate who’s downed multiple times.

One of the most interesting revelations is that if a downed player is left alone for 3.5 seconds, the death timer starts up again, causing the purple bar to begin refilling. The refilling speed increases as more bars are added, from a mere 2 HP per second at one bar to 40 HP per second at three bars. This makes it even harder to revive players who have been downed multiple times.

However, there’s a silver lining. These penalties gradually disappear over time, or when players visit a Site of Grace. Zullie also highlights the impact of different weapons on the revive bar. Larger weapons, like Greatswords, Halberds, and Reapers, are much more effective at clearing the bar compared to smaller weapons like Claws, Daggers, or Torches. Even better, the Revenant’s Cursed Claws can deal damage at a level comparable to a Greatsword, making them an excellent tool for reviving teammates.

Ultimately, these mechanics make it clear that the more you fall, the harder it is to get back up, which can cause tension during intense Nightreign battles. This mechanic also boosts the value of certain characters, like the Revenant, who can summon allies and even revive teammates regardless of the status of their purple bars. So, if you want to ensure your team’s survival, keep those Revenant mains close!
