Elden Ring Nightreign Tops May 2025 Revenue, Oblivion Remastered Stays Strong

Elden Ring Nightreign has made an impressive debut, securing a spot among the top-5 highest-grossing games of May 2025, according to the latest report from global data company Newzoo.

The game launched on May 30th, right at the month’s tail end, yet still managed to secure the fourth position in terms of revenue, ahead of many established titles.

Despite its late release, Elden Ring Nightreign quickly climbed the ranks, trailing behind only the top-tier live service games: Fortnite, EA Sports FC 25, and Call of Duty. This performance reflects the game’s immediate appeal and the strength of the Elden Ring brand. The game’s mixed initial reviews on Steam have improved to a “Very Positive” rating, with approximately 3.5 million copies sold in May.

Meanwhile, Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered continues to show its staying power, remaining in the top-20 for both revenue and monthly active users (MAU) for two months running. The remaster’s success underscores the enduring popularity of the Elder Scrolls franchise.

Other notable games in the May 2025 report include id Software’s DOOM: The Dark Ages, which secured a spot in the top-10 for revenue, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which outperformed DOOM in the revenue rankings

. Star Wars Battlefront II also experienced a significant resurgence, coming in at number 15 for MAU, thanks to a strong community rally around Star Wars Day and major discounts.

The report also highlighted several games that showed notable shifts in engagement, including Grand Theft Auto V, Apex Legends, and HELLDIVERS 2, all of which saw increased player activity thanks to recent updates or content additions. HELLDIVERS 2, in particular, saw a massive jump in rankings after the May 13 update, introducing new content and urban environments to the game. Similarly, Destiny 2 generated excitement with the announcement of a new paid expansion due in July.

As we look ahead, it’s clear that both established franchises and new titles are driving significant engagement in the gaming world. Elden Ring Nightreign’s successful launch and the sustained popularity of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered demonstrate that both long-awaited sequels and fresh experiences are resonating with players worldwide.
