Wakanda returns sooner than expected as Eyes of Wakanda, the animated Black Panther spin-off, is now set to premiere on August 1 – more than three weeks ahead of its original August 27 release date.
All four episodes of the series will be dropping at once, exclusively on Disney+.
Directed by Todd Harris, the series unfolds across multiple eras and locations, delivering a time-hopping narrative centered on Noni, voiced by Winnie Harlow. A former Dora Milaje turned elite Hatut Zeraze agent, Noni is described as a rebellious, covert-ops version of a Wakandan spy – think James Bond with vibranium. She doesn’t exactly follow royal protocol, which adds fire to her missions.
In the first episode, Noni is tasked with taking down The Lion, voiced by Cress Williams – a traitorous Wakandan who fled with stolen tech and fashioned himself into a ruthless warlord. Harris likens the premise to Apocalypse Now meets Thulsa Doom: a rogue Wakandan becoming the empire’s problem. “What if Wakanda had to hunt down one of their own who went full imperialist?” Harris teased. The mission sets the tone for the rest of the anthology.
Fans can also expect surprise appearances from lesser-known Marvel characters, including a revamped version of Iron Fist. According to Harris, along with writers Marc Bernardin and Geoffrey Thorne, the creative team dug into Marvel’s oddball corners to see how far they could push the universe’s boundaries. Their take on Iron Fist is reportedly unlike anything fans saw in Netflix’s earlier attempt.
With an ambitious narrative, dynamic visuals, and an unapologetically bold protagonist, Eyes of Wakanda aims to deepen the lore of Wakanda while stretching the edges of Marvel storytelling. And now, fans don’t have to wait as long to see it all unfold.
