After years of gravity-defying stunts and globe-trotting action, Vin Diesel has promised to bring Fast X: Part 2 back to its roots.
At FuelFest in Los Angeles, Diesel announced that the final chapter of the Fast & Furious saga will hit theaters in April 2027-and it’s heading home, literally and thematically. The finale will return to Los Angeles and the underground street racing culture where it all began.
The biggest twist? Brian O’Conner, the character played by the late Paul Walker, is set to reunite with Dominic Toretto. Diesel confirmed plans to feature Brian once more, a move that has divided fans. Some see it as a heartfelt tribute, others view it as exploitative. The character received a respectful farewell in Furious 7 following Walker’s tragic death in 2013. Since then, he’s only appeared via archive footage, and many believed his story was complete.
How exactly the franchise will portray Brian remains unclear-rumors swirl around CGI, body doubles, or previously unused footage. Whatever the case, the creative team seems intent on giving the character (and fans) one last ride.
Diesel also addressed the franchise’s shift from turbo-charged realism to superhero-esque spectacle. He acknowledged that fans missed the old-school car culture, promising a finale that embraces the raw thrill of street racing. This statement has sparked speculation about who might return-could the Tokyo Drift crew make a comeback? Is DK still drifting around somewhere?
And then there’s the ever-looming figure of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. After years of public beef between the two stars, things seem to have cooled. Diesel’s “All love… Always” Instagram post and Johnson’s statement about putting the past behind them suggest a possible reunion on-screen.
As the curtain prepares to fall on a franchise that redefined action cinema, fans are left wondering: is this the send-off the Fast family deserves-or is it a burnout that went on too long?

Look, Paul got the best send-off they could give. This just feels weird now, ngl
