FBC: Firebreak Update 1.2 Arrives with Promises of Major Fixes
Remedy’s online cooperative multiplayer game, FBC: Firebreak, has launched on both PC and consoles, but the reception hasn’t been great. With Steam concurrent users not even hitting 2,000 and reviews sitting at a ‘Mixed’ rating (65% thumbs up), the game’s journey has been rocky so far. However, Remedy is not giving up. The studio has just rolled out Update 1.2, focused on speeding up progression and improving the in-game economy.
In this update, the Requisition store now clearly separates gear from cosmetics, and job progression has been revamped to let players unlock full Jobs-across all three zones-much faster.
But that’s just the beginning. Remedy has issued a more detailed open letter acknowledging the game’s initial shortcomings and outlining future improvements. One of the biggest complaints so far has been the weak starting experience, particularly due to lack of proper onboarding and unclear objectives within Jobs. This has made it hard for players to understand how to proceed or what to aim for. Additionally, the early stages of the game suffer from low-powered starting weapons, and players are required to grind excessively to unlock higher-tier weapons.
Remedy’s response? Stick with it. The developers claim that players who push through the early grind will eventually unlock powerful tier 3 weapons and perks. Once you get there and start engaging in higher threat levels and completing full three-zone job runs, the experience improves significantly. The sense of power feels more rewarding, and the game becomes more enjoyable.
However, as it stands, players are being thrown into intense action with little guidance on how to effectively engage with the game’s systems, how to tackle Jobs, or how to handle status effects like fire or Resonance. Remedy is aware of these issues and is working to improve the clarity of synergies between Crisis Kits and the readability of harmful status effects. They are also planning to refine objective markers, which currently don’t provide enough direction for what needs to be done. Remedy has gathered feedback and ideas for these improvements, but players will have to be patient as they carefully plan and implement these changes.
While the game isn’t exactly a smooth experience out of the gate, Remedy’s commitment to addressing these issues shows their willingness to improve FBC: Firebreak over time. Fans of the game will need to stay hopeful as the team works to refine and expand the game’s systems. You can catch Francesco’s detailed review-in-progress of the game as it continues to evolve.
