Foldable iPhone to Feature A20 Pro Chip and C2 5G Modem, But May Skip Telephoto Camera

Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone is shaping up to be a fascinating mix of high-end innovation and calculated compromises.

Slated for a late 2026 launch, the foldable device is rumored to be powered by the next-gen 2nm A20 Pro chip-Apple’s most advanced SoC yet-paired with the newly developed C2 5G modem, which could finally bring robust mmWave support to the lineup.

What makes the A20 Pro so intriguing is its use of TSMC’s 2nm process and WMCM (Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module) packaging, a technology that allows multiple dies to be combined at the wafer stage. This results in better power efficiency and compact chip sizes, keeping the foldable iPhone sleek while ensuring top-tier performance.

Samsung is reportedly supplying the crease-free OLED displays for this device, with a 5.5-inch cover screen and a 7.8-inch internal panel. Folded, the device could measure between 9-9.5mm in thickness, slimming down to about 4.5-4.8mm when opened. On the storage side, configurations of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB are expected, with a fixed 12GB RAM across all variants-though some argue that 16GB should be the minimum at its expected $2,000–$2,400 price point.

However, not everything screams premium. To manage costs, Apple may drop both Face ID and the telephoto camera. Instead, the foldable iPhone is expected to feature just wide and ultrawide cameras, maxing out at 48MP. While this may disappoint mobile photographers, some users suggest the telephoto lens often underdelivers, and enhancements to the primary sensor could offset the omission.

Ultimately, these specs are still in flux, but if Apple strikes the right balance, the foldable iPhone could set a new benchmark for premium foldables-even without the full bells and whistles.
