The foldable smartphone market in Europe grew by just 4% in Q1 2025, signaling a slow and steady evolution despite fierce competition. As revealed by Counterpoint Research, foldables now make up 1.5% of all smartphone sales in the region. Although this marks growth, it highlights that the foldable market remains niche, with its expansion slowing down.
Samsung continued to dominate, holding a 41% share in Europe. However, the tech giant saw a significant dip of 15 percentage points from the previous year as competitors gained ground.
Motorola, in particular, has made strides, overtaking Honor to secure the second spot in Europe, commanding a 15% market share. The success of the Motorola Razr 50 played a key role in this surge. Honor came in third with a 13% share, while Google experienced significant growth, capturing 8% of the market due to strong demand for its Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Tecno also saw remarkable growth, driven by the affordability of its Phantom V Fold 2, which gained popularity in the book-type fold segment.
Other players like Xiaomi (8%) and Oppo (4%) rounded out the top positions. With prices lowering and retail strategies adjusting, Counterpoint forecasts that intense competition will continue to shape the foldable market throughout 2025, potentially driving faster growth in the future.
