Galaxy A15, iPhone 15 Top Global Q2 2024 Smartphone Sales

Samsung and Apple Dominate Smartphone Sales Q2 2024

The Galaxy A15 has effectively continued the legacy of the Galaxy A14 by becoming Samsung’s best-selling smartphone for the second quarter (Q2) of 2024. Both the 4G and 5G variants of the Galaxy A15 secured positions on the top-selling smartphones list. Specifically, the Galaxy A15 5G was Samsung’s best-selling smartphone and ranked fourth globally, while the Galaxy A15 4G ranked fifth.

According to the latest report by Counterpoint Research, Samsung captured five spots on the world’s top ten best-selling smartphones list in Q2 2024. Aside from the Galaxy A15 models, the Galaxy A55 ranked seventh, the Galaxy S24 Ultra ninth, and the Galaxy A06 tenth. This impressive performance reflects Samsung’s strategy to increase the average selling price of its phones compared to previous years.

In contrast, last year’s top rankings for Samsung included the Galaxy A14 4G as the best-seller, followed by the Galaxy A14 5G (fifth), Galaxy A54 (sixth), Galaxy A14 5G (seventh), Galaxy S23 Ultra (eighth), Galaxy A04e (ninth), and Galaxy A34 (tenth) in Q2 2023.

Despite Samsung’s accomplishments, Apple’s iPhone 15 triumphed as the best-selling smartphone worldwide. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro followed, securing the second and third spots, respectively. The continuing popularity of the iPhone 15 series highlights Apple’s strong market presence, even though it trails behind Samsung in overall smartphone shipment volumes.

Counterpoint Research highlights that the iPhone 15 Pro Max offers enhanced features over the base iPhone 15, including a titanium build, additional cameras, a tetraprism telephoto lens, and a high-refresh-rate OLED screen. The iPhone 15 had the highest market share at 4.1 percent, followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max at 3.7 percent, and the iPhone 15 Pro at a lower share.

Interestingly, the previous-generation iPhone 14 secured the sixth position, outperforming the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which held the ninth spot with a 1.4 percent share of total sales. However, a new entrant to the list is Xiaomi’s Redmi 13C 4G, which ranked eighth.

Counterpoint Research noted that while premium smartphones maintained their presence in the top 10 list, their cumulative sales share fell by about 1.5 percent globally. This drop is partly due to the Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 facing challenges in gaining momentum in China, a market significantly dominated by Huawei and Vivo.

Speculation about the increasing impact of generative AI-powered smartphones on future shipments is notable. The expected launch of the iPhone 16 later this year may greatly influence market dynamics, particularly with the anticipated rollout of the Apple Intelligence suite in iOS 18.1.

In conclusion, the battle between Samsung and Apple for dominance in the global smartphone market intensifies, with both companies showing robust performance in their respective niches. As the year progresses, it will be interesting to see how the introduction of new technologies and models will shift these trends.
