Samsung has quietly confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra will launch with One UI 8.5, marking a significant step forward in its software evolution. 
Although earlier reports hinted at this update, it’s now official thanks to a leaked firmware version S948USQU0AYG8 found on Samsung’s servers. The build info explicitly states that it’s based on Android 16 and One UI 8.5.
This is the first formal appearance of One UI 8.5, following a mention from trusted leaker IceUniverse. The update seems to reflect Samsung’s new strategy: while the foldable Galaxy Z series will debut full One UI x.0 versions mid-year, the Galaxy S line will roll out major .5 updates like One UI 8.5, packed with new features and refinements.
Samsung is clearly aiming to align its software update schedule with Google’s faster Android release cycle. Google’s new development model now delivers major Android versions mid-year, and Samsung’s syncing its strategy to match, potentially leading to speedier, more stable updates.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to go head-to-head with the iPhone 17 lineup, offering more than just software improvements. Rumors suggest enhancements in display tech, faster charging (still debated), and possibly a refreshed design.
