The Galaxy Watch 4 is getting a major software update-yes, in 2025! Samsung hasn’t forgotten its 2021 classic, and the upcoming One UI 8 Watch update promises to breathe new life into the aging smartwatch.
Originally launched as a game-changer for Samsung’s wearable line, the Galaxy Watch 4 was the first to switch from Tizen OS to Google’s Wear OS 3, unlocking access to the Google Play Store and a vastly improved app ecosystem. Samsung layered its One UI Watch on top to maintain its signature user experience.
While recent betas of One UI 8 Watch targeted newer models like the Galaxy Watch 5 and 6, reliable leaks suggest Samsung is also rolling it out to Watch 4 users. This could be the device’s final major update, but it’s packed with meaningful improvements.
The update introduces redesigned Tiles, richer and more customizable watch faces, and smoother transitions throughout the UI. A new vertical grid or list-style app launcher puts frequently used apps at the top for quick access.
One standout feature is the Now Bar, which keeps ongoing activities-like workouts, timers, and media controls-within easy reach. Notifications are getting smarter too: grouped alerts from the same app and no redundant pings when you’re already using your phone.
Gesture controls are also expanding, with new double-pinch and hand movement shortcuts that make navigating the watch even more intuitive.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Watch 4 still holds up with its dual-core 1.18GHz chip, 1.5 GB RAM, and 7 GB of storage. Its 361 mAh battery promises up to 40 hours on a single charge-nothing groundbreaking, but plenty for daily use.
So, if you’re still rocking your Galaxy Watch 4, don’t shelve it just yet. This surprise update could make it feel fresh again, even four years after launch.
