Samsung has officially reclaimed the crown in the foldable phone arena with its Galaxy Z Fold 7, now proven to be the thinnest and lightest book-style foldable on the market. Despite early beliefs that the vivo X Fold5 or Honor Magic V5 might hold that title, recent independent testing shows the Fold 7 leads the pack.
Tipster and critic Ice Universe shared measurements comparing the Fold 7 with other flagship foldables.
His findings, supported by both visual comparisons and caliper measurements, revealed that the Fold 7 is only 8.9mm thick when folded and weighs 218 grams – making it slimmer than the vivo X Fold5 (9.2mm) and lighter than Honor’s Magic V5 (224g) and OPPO’s Find N5 (236g).
While Samsung’s official spec sheet lists the Fold 7 at 215g, Ice Universe’s scale showed 218g – still enough to edge out the competition. He even rotated phones during his tests and used a sliding ball technique to gauge thickness, confirming the Fold 7’s superiority in both size and weight.
The Fold 7 launches on July 25, and most reviewers are still under embargo. But this early leak reinforces that Samsung didn’t just slim down its device – it engineered a new benchmark. Notably, the company removed S Pen support, a controversial move that now seems justified given the record-setting form factor.
In a world of increasingly crowded foldables, Samsung has once again shown it knows how to lead – not just follow. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 isn’t just thinner and lighter – it’s proof of Samsung’s continued dominance in the folding phone game.
