Should You Upgrade to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Stick with the Z Fold 6?

If you’re considering upgrading to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, you might want to think twice. Sure, it’s a sleek and shiny new model, but is it worth the extra $250? The Fold 7, launching on July 9, brings some improvements like a thinner design, a bigger screen, and better camera hardware, but those upgrades don’t seem to offer enough to justify the price hike.

When comparing the Fold 7 to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the differences are mostly aesthetic. The Z Fold 7 is thinner (4.5 mm unfolded, compared to the Fold 6’s 5.6 mm), lighter, and features a punch-hole front camera instead of an under-display one. There’s also a slightly larger 8.2-inch screen, but let’s be real – how much will you notice these incremental changes in your daily use? Unless you’re constantly comparing the two, the Fold 6 still looks and feels modern enough to hold its own.

In fact, the bulkier design of the Fold 6 can be a plus for some. It feels sturdy, almost like a little book, and gives you something solid to grip. The bulk doesn’t make it uncomfortable; rather, it adds to the device’s sense of reliability and physical presence. It’s like holding a premium product in your hands – and it’s hard to argue against that.

Let’s talk battery life, though. This is where the Z Fold 7 raises some concerns. Samsung’s push to slim down the device could result in a smaller battery capacity, and that’s something that could directly impact how long your phone lasts. While the Fold 7’s battery specs aren’t official yet, if it ends up with a 4,400 mAh battery or smaller, that’s a clear trade-off. Compare that to competitors like the Honor Magic V2, which has a 5,000 mAh battery, and the Oppo Find N5, which pushes even further with a 5,600 mAh battery. If battery life is a big deal for you, the Fold 6 might still be the better bet.

Now, let’s address the pricing. The Galaxy Z Fold 7’s starting price is expected to be around $250 more than the Z Fold 6. For what? A slightly thinner design and some incremental upgrades? That’s hard to justify, especially when you can pick up a Fold 6 for a better value now that it’s discounted. Both phones run on the same Snapdragon chips, support multitasking, and come with years of software updates. If anything, the Z Fold 6 might be the more practical option for many users.

At the end of the day, if you’re in the Samsung foldable ecosystem, there’s no real need to rush into buying the Fold 7. The Fold 6 is still a beast, and as its price continues to drop after the Fold 7’s release, it might just be the smarter choice.
