If these numbers are any indication, the new lineup might surpass the current pre-order record of 1.02 million, set by the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5. While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 failed to reach the same heights, this year’s models seem poised to attract more customers.
Analysts suggest that Samsung could indeed break this record, pointing to the high demand for these foldable devices. However, there are some factors to consider. First, the prediction only applies to the South Korean market, one of Samsung’s most crucial territories. Yet, the local situation is more complicated than it seems. SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest mobile carrier, has been hit by a significant data breach, losing a substantial number of subscribers. This has created an opportunity for its competitors – KT and LG U+ – to offer enticing deals to win over disgruntled customers.
In response, the major telecoms are using the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 as an opportunity to attract new customers, making the pre-order situation even more volatile. To make things more interesting, the Korean government recently lifted a regulation requiring telecoms to disclose the details of their carrier subsidy deals. Now, telecoms can ramp up their subsidies to help drive device sales further.
The predictions for the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are likely on target. After a less-than-stellar showing with last year’s models, Samsung has made the necessary upgrades while keeping prices stable. This could make the new foldables the easiest choice for anyone looking to own a top-tier foldable device in 2025.
