Ghost of Yotei, the highly anticipated follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, will offer a similarly expansive experience, according to its developers at Sucker Punch.
In a recent conversation with VideoGamesChronicle, the studio confirmed that the game’s main story length and overall content will mirror that of its predecessor-but with added variety and evolved gameplay systems.
For reference, Ghost of Tsushima clocked in at around 25 hours for the main campaign, with side content stretching that to 46 hours and a full 100% completion nearing 62 hours, per HowLongToBeat. Fans can expect Ghost of Yotei to hit similar numbers-but it’s the journey, not just the hours, that the studio is focusing on.
Co-director Jason Connell explained how moving the setting to Hokkaido inspired them to rethink freedom in the game. “We wanted to explore what it really means for the player to be free-how they discover things, how the world responds to them. It’s about creating moments of curiosity and discovery, not just marking a checklist.”
Fellow director Nate Fox echoed that sentiment, painting a vivid picture of the open-world magic that made the original so beloved. “You’re riding your horse through this breathtaking landscape. The wind might guide you to the next quest, but then you spot something in the distance that pulls you away. That’s the real magic-when the world feels alive and you’re the one driving the story.”
While the studio hasn’t confirmed if the co-op multiplayer mode Legends will return, it’s worth noting the original multiplayer launched months after the base game. Fans may need to wait and see if history repeats itself.
Ghost of Yotei launches exclusively for PlayStation 5 on October 2, with a PC release almost certainly in the pipeline-though likely not for at least another year, based on Sony’s current platform strategy.
