Google’s Gemini AI is officially landing on more Samsung Galaxy smartwatches – not just the latest Galaxy Watch8 series.
If you’re rocking an older model like the Galaxy Watch5 or Watch6, good news: you might be next in line, as long as your watch is updated to the latest One UI 8 Watch interface running on Wear OS 4 or newer.
The rollout initially began with the Watch8 and Watch8 Classic, but Google promised wider compatibility, and it looks like they’re delivering. Owners of the Watch5 and Watch5 Pro can already test One UI 8 Watch through Samsung’s beta program, and updates for the Watch6 and Watch7 lines are likely just around the corner.
However, there’s a catch – and it’s a frustrating one for some users. On watches running software older than One UI 8, Gemini can be installed but won’t replace the classic Google Assistant. That leaves some users with both voice assistants, but no real way to remove the older one.
While some see Gemini as a smarter upgrade, others aren’t thrilled about more AI creeping into their wristwear. Whether it’s a leap forward or just more ‘AI malwareium’ is up for debate. Still, if you’re into cutting-edge features, Gemini on your Galaxy Watch might be worth a look – once that software update hits.
