Android users may soon enjoy a feature that has been long overdue, bringing the OS in line with Apple’s seamless device experience. According to recent findings in the Google Play Services teardown, Android is working on a cross-device sync feature similar to Apple’s Handoff.
This feature, found in the beta version of Google Play Services (25.25.31), could revolutionize how users interact with their Android devices.
The new feature, labeled ‘Handoff,’ allows users to continue tasks across different Android devices, accessing apps, media, and notifications seamlessly. This means that if you’re working on something on your phone, you can easily pick it up on a tablet, Chromebook, or any other device linked to your Google account.
Another exciting addition is the syncing of notifications. Currently, dismissing notifications on one device doesn’t prevent them from appearing on others, leading to frustration. With the new Handoff feature, notifications would be properly synchronized, meaning if you clear a notification on one device, it won’t pop up again on another.
Furthermore, Google is integrating file and media sharing into this feature, which could significantly simplify transferring content between devices. Users would no longer need third-party apps or solutions that often fail to work across the ecosystem. This is a huge leap forward in terms of making Android devices more interconnected and user-friendly.
While the feature is not officially confirmed by Google yet, the inclusion of these strings in Google Play Services suggests that it could be rolled out in the near future. With Apple and Samsung already offering similar solutions, it’s great to see Google catching up and pushing for a more unified Android experience.
