Google Maps Rolls Out New Features Across Europe for Cyclists and Drivers

Google Maps is rolling out a series of exciting updates across Europe, just in time for the summer season. One of the standout features is the AI-powered prediction that estimates when walking or using public transit will take as long as driving.

This feature is now available in cities like Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Warsaw.

For cyclists, there’s a new addition in cities like Hamburg, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Rome, Zurich, Budapest, Vienna, and Brussels. Users will now be able to see dedicated cycling lanes, plus important details like heavy traffic areas and steep hills that might slow them down.

Another cool update is the globally available fuel-efficient routing option for drivers. This feature helps you navigate with a focus on conserving fuel and reducing emissions. Google Maps is also adding a feature that highlights over 1,000 low-emission and low-traffic zones across Europe, which will be accessible in the coming months. This feature tells drivers whether their vehicles are allowed in these zones and provides alternate routes if needed.

Lastly, Google is ramping up its AI-powered capabilities to optimize traffic flow. By analyzing traffic patterns and incorporating driving trends, Google Maps will offer suggestions on how cities can optimize traffic light scheduling. Vilnius, Lithuania, is the latest city to benefit from this cutting-edge tech.
