Google Pixel 10 Accessories: Everything You Need to Know About Pixelsnap and Magnetic Cases

Google’s Pixel 10 series is expected to feature a new line of magnetic accessories, branded Pixelsnap, designed to offer a more seamless charging experience. Initially, it was rumored that these accessories would work with built-in magnets in the Pixel 10, similar to Apple’s MagSafe.

Unfortunately, new reports have dashed that hope, revealing that the magnets will only be present in cases, not the phones themselves.

This approach is quite similar to what other Android manufacturers have done, adopting Qi2 wireless charging but leaving the magnets to reside in the accessories, rather than in the phones. This has raised questions about why Android manufacturers seem hesitant to include magnets in their phones, despite the advantages they offer in terms of charging efficiency and accessory compatibility.

Google’s Pixelsnap chargers and stands will only work if you also use a case with embedded magnets. The chargers will reportedly resemble Apple’s MagSafe charging pad, while the stands will resemble the existing Pixel Stand 2, with a slot designed to hold the Qi2 charger. Google is expected to unveil these accessories, including the magnet-equipped cases, at the Pixel 10 launch event, which is slated for August 20.

While some users have expressed disappointment over this decision, others see it as a positive development, allowing more flexibility and better battery capacity by keeping the phone’s internals free of magnets. The real impact of this choice will be felt when the Pixel 10 is officially revealed, and we get to see how the new system performs in practice.
