A recent leak suggests that the Google Pixel 10 may not feature some expected upgrades, leaving users wondering if the base model will be a significant improvement over its predecessor.
While there are still some anticipated enhancements, the missing features might prompt more users to opt for the Pro version instead.
The leak indicates that the base Pixel 10 could miss out on a vapor chamber, a cooling system that helps manage heat and boost performance during demanding activities like gaming. The Pixel 9 also lacked this feature, and it seems this year’s model might follow the same path.
Another potential drawback is the absence of Wi-Fi 7. While the Pixel 9 supported this faster standard, the Pixel 10 is reportedly expected to offer Wi-Fi 6E instead. This shift could be seen as a downgrade, especially as Wi-Fi 7 is becoming more prevalent in newer devices.
As for the camera, the Pixel 10 is rumored to sport a triple-camera setup for the first time on the base model. However, earlier reports suggest that Google might use smaller sensors for the main and ultrawide cameras in order to accommodate the third lens. This could negatively affect photo quality, particularly in low-light scenarios.
In terms of software, there may also be some missing features. Previous leaks suggested that Google would enhance video stabilization across the entire Pixel 10 lineup, but the latest information indicates that this might be exclusive to the Pro version. That would leave the base model with less impressive video recording capabilities.
Additionally, Google is said to be working on a new feature called “Ultra Res Zoom,” an upgraded version of Super Res Zoom, which has been a part of Pixel phones since the Pixel 3. Ultra Res Zoom could allow for greater zoom capabilities beyond the 8x offered by the current Super Res Zoom. However, the leak suggests this feature will likely be exclusive to the Pro version.
As for the design, the Pixel 10 may have matte sides paired with a glossy back, giving it a distinctive look compared to previous models.
The Pixel 10 series is expected to launch in late August. Although pricing details are still unclear, if these leaks hold true, the gap between the base model and the Pro version could widen significantly. For those contemplating between the Pixel 10 and the upcoming Pixel 10a, the decision may come down to whether the missing features are worth skipping or if it’s worth spending extra for the Pro model.
