Google Search is enhancing your experience with AI-driven features that make finding answers quicker and more intuitive. Now, when you perform a search on Android or iOS, an AI Overview might appear as part of the response.
But don’t assume your journey ends there. Some sections of the AI Overview are highlighted in blue, and tapping on these areas reveals three new interactive buttons at the bottom of your screen.
The three buttons are designed to help you dive deeper into the information:
- Explain this: Tapping this button gives you a more detailed explanation of the highlighted section. For example, when you search ‘What is Android?’, the AI Overview might show a brief definition, like ‘Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google primarily for mobile devices.’ If this doesn’t provide enough clarity, pressing ‘Explain this’ will provide further details.
- Related images: This button will display images related to the blue-highlighted snippet from the AI Overview, helping you better visualize the topic.
- Copy text: If you want to keep the information, this button allows you to copy the highlighted text to your clipboard for easy access later.
While this addition is helpful, there’s still uncertainty about whether more buttons will be introduced to offer further details. Given Google’s push to integrate AI into its apps, it’s not surprising that similar features are expected. For instance, Google plans to offer AI-generated summaries for articles in your Discover feed. This feature will allow you to quickly get an overview of an article from multiple sources without needing to open it fully. Instead of showing just one publisher’s logo, overlapping icons will indicate how many sources were used for the summary. Tapping these icons will reveal all the articles used.
Google aims to save you time by providing previews and summaries so you can decide if the full article is worth reading. If the AI summary is informative enough, you might skip opening the story altogether. Currently, Google is testing these AI features, and it’s clear that the goal is to get you the information you need in the shortest time possible.
