Just a day after Apple unveiled iOS 26, Google has confirmed it will release Android 16 in a surprising move. After six months of beta testing, the official Android Developers account revealed June 10 as the official launch date. This marks the arrival of the stable Android 16 version, and it’s coming to Pixel phones.

Google’s decision to release Android 16 earlier than usual is notable, and this time, the company has given us the exact launch date-an unusual move for a stable release, considering their teaser strategy for earlier beta versions.

Android 16 will drop alongside the June 2025 Feature Drop, bringing even more exciting updates to your Pixel device. Not just the phones, but the Pixel Watch lineup is also in line for updates. A few new features, like Live Updates, will join the pack. Similar to Apple’s Live Activities, Live Updates will keep users informed with real-time notifications, such as food delivery status or sports scores.

Although Material 3 Expressive design won’t be making an appearance yet, Android 16 is still packed with improvements. One key feature is the Advanced Protection mode, which integrates Android’s security settings into a single interface. You’ll also see features like Intrusion Logging and Inactivity Reboot-though these might be delayed to later updates.

If you’re currently on the Android 16 QPR1 Beta, you won’t receive an OTA to the stable Android 16. Users on the Android 15 stable channel or Android 16 beta are in line for the update. However, if you’re on the QPR1 beta, you must leave the beta program and downgrade to stable Android 16, though note that this will erase all data on your device.

As the stable release is set to bring several new features, both Android and iPhone users will have to wait for their respective redesigns. Android 16 will introduce a vibrant Material 3 Expressive design in the future, while Apple’s iOS 26 will feature a translucent glass-inspired look. One thing’s for sure-these two tech giants are competing more fiercely than ever, with major announcements landing one after another!
