Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn is shaping up to be the most ambitious expansion Crate Entertainment has ever attempted for their beloved action RPG. Initially aiming for a 2024 launch, the team now suggests a possible release window anywhere between late 2025 and mid-2026.

And honestly? The wait just might be worth it.

This expansion isn’t just more Grim Dawn-it’s a lot more. With over 3.5 square kilometers of content (110% larger than Ashes of Malmouth), it promises a sprawling world filled with danger, loot, and lore. The new central hub, Kurnhold, dwarfs previous expansions with four fully explorable zones and a rapidly growing questline already boasting 47 missions.

On the enemy front, Fangs of Asterkarn features a staggering 54 bosses-including eight Nemesis-class foes and a few secrets still under wraps. The enemy AI and skills are also getting a significant upgrade, pushing Grim Dawn’s aging engine harder than ever before. The devs have already revealed one superboss, ominously named the Dread, and teased another lurking in the shadows.

The loot system is equally overwhelming: more than 380 Unique items, 120 Monster Infrequents, and a growing library of Awakened Epics. Ascendant mode will also introduce 33 rare tertiary affixes exclusive to that difficulty, adding another layer of excitement for hardcore players.

That’s not even counting the two new roguelike dungeons planned for post-release, promising even more bosses and exclusive loot to grind. If you’re a completionist or just someone who loves that dopamine hit from a perfect drop, Fangs of Asterkarn looks like it won’t disappoint.

And yes, Crate has confirmed the expansion will drop on both PC and Xbox One simultaneously-just like they did with the Grim Dawn Definitive Edition in 2021.

While a delay might sting, fans seem ready to wait. As long as the final product delivers, Grim Dawn’s legacy is only going to grow.
