This new foldable phone improves on its predecessor, the V3, without completely changing its visual appeal. At first glance, the Magic V5 closely resembles the V3, but look a bit closer and you’ll notice that the frame is now flatter, which is said to make the device easier to handle.

Although the V3 was already impressive, the V5 brings key upgrades. It’s thinner, lighter, and more durable with better protection against water and dust. The foldable design is now only 8.8mm thick when folded, and when opened, it measures 4.1mm/4.2mm depending on the color choice. The V5 weighs just 217g/222g, with the Ivory White color being the lightest. Other colors like Black, Dawn Gold, and Reddish Brown are slightly heavier.

In terms of durability, the Magic V5 takes things up a notch. While the V3 was rated IPX8 for water resistance, the V5 is now IP58 and IP59 rated, providing enhanced protection against water and adding dust resistance. This makes it one of the most robust foldable devices out there.

The standout upgrade, however, is the 12% increase in battery capacity. The Magic V5 now packs a 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery in China (5,820mAh internationally), up from the previous 5,150mAh. It continues to support 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging for fast recharges.

Both the external and internal displays remain nearly identical in terms of specs. The cover screen is a 6.43-inch 2376x1060px 120Hz LTPO OLED with a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, while the internal display measures 7.95 inches with a 2352x2172px resolution and the same peak brightness. The cover screen is protected by Honor’s Anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield, while the folding screen gets a more durable Super Armored Inner Screen.

Moving on to the cameras, the Magic V5 upgrades its setup with a 50MP f/1.6 wide-angle camera, a new 50MP f/2.0 ultrawide (up from the previous 40MP), and a 70mm f/2.5 telephoto camera with a 64MP sensor (upgraded from 1/2.51-inch to 1/2.0-inch sensor size). For selfies, there are two 20MP f/2.2 cameras, one on each display.

Under the hood, the Honor Magic V5 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and comes in three configurations: 12GB/256GB, 16GB/512GB, and 16GB/1TB, available in four colors: Ivory White, Black, Dawn Gold, and Reddish Brown. Pricing starts at CNY 8,999 (approximately $1,255), going up to CNY 10,999 ($1,535) for the highest configuration.
