Honor is back to shake up the foldable market with the Magic V5, and it’s aiming straight for the crown of the world’s thinnest horizontal foldable.
Building on the 2023 Magic V2’s sub-10mm achievement, the Magic V5 now pushes even further with a mere 8.8mm thickness when closed, making it sleeker than anything else on the market-including Honor’s own Magic V3 at 9.2mm.
Fresh hands-on images and specs, leaked by the ever-reliable Digital Chat Station, show a polished design that manages to pack serious hardware into its featherweight 217g body. That’s lighter than a Galaxy S25 Ultra (218g) or even an iPhone 16 Pro Max (227g).
Inside this trim chassis, Honor fits a surprisingly large 6,100mAh battery, one of the biggest ever in a foldable this thin. Charging is just as impressive, with 66W wired and 50W wireless support. Compare that to Samsung’s rumored Z Fold7 still stuck with 4,400mAh-it’s clear who’s pushing boundaries.
Powering the V5 is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite (Leading Version), backed by a capable camera setup. Despite early rumors of a 200MP main sensor, recent leaks suggest a more balanced combo: 50MP main, 50MP ultra-wide, and a telephoto camera with either 50MP or 64MP, alongside dual 20MP selfie cams. Notably, the periscope zoom reaches 3x/70mm.
The camera bump has grown compared to the V3, which raised questions among fans-possibly to house more robust components or better heat management. Either way, early shots show it looking a bit like the Find N5 at a glance, albeit with slightly chunkier bezels.
The Magic V5 will open to an expansive 8-inch main display with a 6.45-inch cover screen. A side-mounted fingerprint reader returns, and Honor hasn’t cut corners on extras-expect IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance, NFC, and even an IR blaster. That IP69 rating would be a game-changer, as current foldables rarely exceed IP48.
The official launch is set for July 2, and the V5 won’t be alone-Honor is also teasing the arrival of the MagicPad 3. But if these leaks hold, the Magic V5 may already be the foldable to beat in 2025.
