Honor Magic V5: The Slimmest Foldable Smartphone Set to Challenge Galaxy Z Fold 7

Thin is the new black, and Honor’s upcoming Magic V5 is set to steal the spotlight in the foldable smartphone race. The Chinese tech giant has just teased its next foldable, and it’s gearing up to reclaim the title of the world’s thinnest smartphone.

Scheduled for a July 2 unveiling, the Magic V5’s latest teaser offers a glimpse of its ultra-slim design, setting the stage for a rematch with Oppo, which currently holds the title.

The teaser reveals the device in a sleek new color, possibly the rumored Silk Gold, alongside familiar shades from last year’s Magic V3: Velvet Black, Snow White, and Tundra Green. The new Gold option brings a touch of luxury, putting Honor ahead of the competition in terms of style, especially compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is expected to be available in more subdued colors.

Honor’s Magic V5 is set to become the thinnest foldable, beating Oppo’s Find N5, which currently holds the record at 8.9 mm when folded and 4.2 mm when opened. Honor is looking to win back the title it previously held, with Oppo and Samsung also in the race for the slimmest foldable. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be just under 9 mm, while Honor’s Magic V5 could come in even thinner.

Battery life is another area where Honor and competitors are stepping up. While Samsung sticks with a 4,400mAh battery for its Galaxy Z Fold 7, Honor and vivo are reportedly opting for larger 6,000mAh+ cells. With leaks pointing to impressive specs, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite, up to 16 GB of RAM, and a 200 MP periscope telephoto camera, the Magic V5 is shaping up to be a top contender.

In terms of feel and form, the Magic V5 could be the foldable to beat. The previous Magic V3 already outshone the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in our review, and with a thinner design and improved features, the V5 is poised to make a significant impact. However, the big question remains: Will it be available in the US? If you’re willing to import, the Magic V5 is a tempting option for those looking for a foldable that feels like a regular phone when closed.

The Honor Magic V5 is coming soon, and with fierce competition from vivo’s X Fold 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, it’s going to be an exciting summer for foldables. Be ready to see which brand takes the crown!
