Honor Magic V5 Challenges Galaxy Z Fold 7 with Advanced Features

Honor is gearing up to release a new foldable device, the Honor Magic V5, just days before Samsung’s much-anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7.

With the competition heating up, Honor is making bold claims about its upcoming device, promising not just thinness but a powerful camera setup to rival its competitors.

The Magic V5 is poised to be the world’s thinnest foldable phone, dethroning its predecessor, the Magic V3, and the Oppo Find N5. But while thinness is always a selling point in foldables, the real excitement comes from its camera system.

Honor has confirmed that the Magic V5 will sport a 64 MP periscope telephoto camera, putting to rest earlier rumors about a 50 MP or 64 MP sensor. This camera will feature Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and telephoto macro capabilities, allowing for both clearer zoomed-in shots and highly detailed close-ups. This could make the Magic V5 one of the most versatile camera setups in the foldable space.

The rest of the Magic V5’s camera configuration includes a 50 MP main sensor and a 50 MP ultra-wide lens, forming a solid triple-camera array. In comparison, the newly launched vivo X Fold 5 features a 50 MP main, 50 MP telephoto, and 50 MP ultra-wide setup, while Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, expected on July 9, will have a 200 MP main camera, 10 MP telephoto, and 12 MP ultra-wide. The race for the best camera will be interesting, but we’ll only know for sure once we get our hands on these devices.

In addition to its impressive camera, the Honor Magic V5 will pack a sizable 6,100mAh battery, which outpaces the vivo X Fold 5 by 100mAh and leaves Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 trailing behind with just 4,400mAh. The Magic V5 will also be the thinnest foldable at 8.8mm when folded, a small yet significant difference that shows how foldable tech is advancing.

Under the hood, the Magic V5 will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, a step up from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 powering the vivo X Fold 5, and on par with the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s chipset. This means all three devices will be top-tier in terms of performance, features, and design, but choosing between them won’t be easy.

However, in the US, the decision might already be made for you. As it stands, Samsung is the only company offering its foldables in the US market, meaning the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will likely be the choice for many, unless that changes in the future.
