Huawei is gearing up to unveil its next-generation tri-fold smartphone, set to be released this September. While many initially speculated it would be called the Mate XT 2, new rumors from China suggest it will be branded as the Mate XTs instead. 
This isn’t a full redesign, but rather an updated version of the original Mate XT.
Launched last September, the Mate XT made waves as the world’s first tri-fold smartphone. Despite its hefty price tag, Huawei reportedly sold over 500,000 units in China alone, which speaks to the growing demand for foldable devices. So, what’s new in the Mate XTs? For one, it will come with a fresh chipset for better performance, an upgraded camera system, and new color options, including white, black, red, and purple. These color choices double the variety available with the original model, giving users more ways to personalize their device.
However, despite these enhancements, the Mate XTs will retain most of the features that made the Mate XT so distinctive, keeping the same folding design and overall structure. The major change seems to be a focus on refinement rather than radical innovation, with Huawei choosing to enhance performance and aesthetics rather than overhaul the core design. With the release just around the corner, we’ll have to wait and see if the slight upgrades will be enough to draw in new buyers or if the design still feels like a missed opportunity for change.
