Huawei’s new Pura 80 Ultra has just been torn down, revealing an astonishingly complex and innovative camera system. Tech YouTuber Yang Changshun has given us the first look inside the device in a 14-minute video, which condenses nearly an hour of intricate disassembly.
Huawei Pura 80 Ultra Teardown Shows Off Next-Level Zoom Tech
The main highlight? A groundbreaking dual-lens zoom module packed into a surprisingly compact form factor.

The star of the teardown is Huawei’s moving dual-lens system, housing an 83mm f/2.4 (approximately 4.7x optical zoom) and a 212mm f/3.6 lens (which operates at a cropped 12.5MP resolution). Contrary to some marketing language, this isn’t a full 9.4x optical zoom – instead, it’s a smart blend of optics and sensor cropping. The module sits atop a large 1/1.28-inch sensor, and it’s fascinating how Huawei engineered it all to fit inside a smartphone chassis.

Changshun takes it a step further by dissecting the zoom module itself under a microscope, revealing a complex internal mechanism made up of around 140 tiny components. This mechanical marvel enables the lenses to slide along the sensor with precision – a feat rarely seen in mobile devices.

Of course, there are limitations. The 212mm zoom doesn’t utilize the full 50MP sensor, as that would require a much larger lens assembly, possibly too big for a standard phone. Still, the innovation here is undeniable, and Huawei continues to push the boundaries of mobile photography tech.

While there are some concerns about Huawei’s marketing claims and design choices (such as the side-mounted fingerprint scanner), the level of engineering packed into the Pura 80 Ultra is nothing short of impressive. This isn’t just another smartphone – it’s a showcase of what’s possible when camera innovation is given center stage.
