Huawei is gearing up to release its second tri-fold phone, and while the world may not be fully ready for such an innovative gadget, it’s coming anyway. After making waves with the Huawei Mate XT, which remains the only commercially available tri-fold phone, the company is reportedly working on a successor. 
This time, Huawei’s new phone could offer some exciting updates, including satellite connectivity, an upgraded chipset, and camera improvements.
The Mate XT has made headlines for its unique design, featuring a 10.2-inch tablet-sized screen with a cinematic 16:11 aspect ratio, making it ideal for media consumption and productivity
. Despite being thicker and heavier than typical foldables, the phone is comfortable in the hand and delivers a stunning 3K OLED display, though its 90 Hz refresh rate might not be enough for some users who crave a more responsive experience.
Huawei’s next iteration may feature even more impressive tech. Leaks point to the use of ultra-flexible glass (UFG), a material also used in Samsung’s W25, which would offer superior durability compared to the standard ultra-thin glass (UTG) found in other foldables. While details on the exact specs are still scarce, industry rumors suggest that the new Huawei phone could rival Samsung’s foldables in terms of display flexibility and strength. UFG is also being touted as a potential challenger to Schott’s position as the leading supplier of foldable glass.
As for the chipset, it’s expected that the Mate XT 2 (or whatever it may be called) will feature a more powerful processor, potentially helping it compete better in the market against other flagship foldable devices. Huawei has had its fair share of challenges due to US sanctions, limiting its access to certain technology, but the company’s commitment to pushing the envelope with foldable tech remains undeniable.
