The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge may be Samsung’s slimmest smartphone, but it shows the challenges of fitting a larger battery into such a slim design. At just 5.8mm thick, the S25 Edge struggles with battery capacity. While it’s true that a larger battery could have been included, Samsung opted for a traditional lithium-ion battery.
A more innovative solution, however, has already been demonstrated by Infinix, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer.
Infinix’s upcoming Hot 60 Pro+ is set to feature a massive 5,160 mAh battery despite its slim 5.95mm profile. The Hot 60 Pro+ weighs just 154.6g, while the Galaxy S25 Edge is slightly thicker at 5.8mm and heavier at 163.8g. The difference in weight may be attributed to the premium materials Samsung uses, including its lithium-ion battery.
In terms of battery performance, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge offers a 3,900 mAh battery that supports 25W wired charging, while the Infinix Hot 60 Pro+ boasts a 5,160 mAh battery with 33W wired charging speeds. This makes Infinix’s device an impressive contender in the slim phone category.
Despite the Hot 60 Pro+ being nearly as slim as the S25 Edge and offering a larger battery, the Galaxy S25 Edge still takes the lead in hardware, as it boasts more premium features. The Infinix device, on the other hand, positions itself as a mid-range option, featuring a MediaTek Helio G200 Ultimate chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage.
Although the exact screen size of the Hot 60 Pro+ remains unknown, it is expected to feature a curved panel with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. As for cameras, the Hot 60 Pro+ is expected to have a 50-megapixel main camera and a 13-megapixel selfie camera.
Infinix’s focus on new technologies like this is a reminder that not all phones need to have top-tier specs to be attractive. While Samsung has yet to use a silicon-carbon battery in its flagship phones, there is speculation that this may change with the expected release of the Galaxy S26 next year.
