Invincible Season 4: Matthew Rhys Joins as Dinosaurus, Kirkman Eyes 9 Seasons to Finish the Story

During the Invincible panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, creator Robert Kirkman dropped some major news: acclaimed actor Matthew Rhys will voice the powerful antihero Dinosaurus in the highly anticipated Invincible Season 4, now slated for a 2026 release on Prime Video.

Fans of The Americans will recognize Rhys as Philip Jennings, and now he’s stepping into the morally complex role of Dinosaurus – a brutal yet ideologically driven villain who wants to reshape the world by eliminating the destructive forces of human civilization. His arrival signals a dramatic shift following the chaos left by Conquest in previous seasons.

While Rhys’ casting was confirmed, Kirkman kept tight-lipped about who will voice Thragg, the main antagonist of the series and the ruthless leader of the Viltrumite Empire. However, he did confirm that all of Thragg’s lines have been recorded.

Looking ahead, Kirkman revealed that his vision for Invincible involves a lengthy journey: “Seven to eight to nine seasons will likely be needed to cover the full comic book arc.” He added, with a smile, “Season 5? Yeah, expect it around 2032. Quote me on that!”-a nod to the show’s famously long gaps between seasons.

In response to critiques of the animation, Kirkman assured fans that quality has steadily improved each season, and that the production team is committed to raising the bar with each new installment.

Beyond the show, Kirkman unveiled new details about the upcoming fighting game Invincible VS, confirming fan-favorite Battle Beast as a playable character. While fans continue to ask for a sprawling open-world Invincible game, Kirkman admitted that budget limitations make that a tall order for now. Smaller, focused games seem to be the current path forward.

With fresh talent like Rhys, an ambitious multi-season plan, and growing expansion into games, Invincible is gearing up to dominate not just animation, but geek culture at large.
