iPhone 17 Leak Hints at Game-Changing 50W Wireless Charging via Qi 2.2

Apple is gearing up to give wireless charging a serious boost with its upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, and leaks suggest we could be looking at up to 50W of wireless charging-a major leap from current capabilities.

While some fans might be disappointed by rumors that the base iPhone 17 could retain the older A18 chip and only 8GB of RAM, this new charging feature might soften the blow.

According to a recent leak reported by 91mobiles and MacRumors, two new MagSafe charger models-A3502 and A3503-have surfaced in Taiwan’s regulatory database. These accessories are reportedly compatible with the Qi 2.2 standard, which introduces better magnetic alignment, higher efficiency, and backward compatibility. Most notably, Qi 2.2 supports wireless charging speeds of up to 50W, more than triple the current 15W standard and a significant jump from the 30W expected in iPhone 16 models.

While the new MagSafe chargers don’t look radically different from their predecessors, their performance upgrades are likely to make a real impact-at least if Apple decides to unlock their full potential. However, Apple being Apple, there’s no guarantee they’ll allow the iPhones to take full advantage of that 50W capability. The company might limit charging speeds or reserve the highest wattages for Pro or Ultra models.

Still, this move could finally close the gap with Android flagships that have long led the pack in fast wireless charging. More efficient charging with better magnetic alignment could also mean less heat, more battery longevity, and fewer dropped connections-making MagSafe more than just a fancy magnetic snap.

Apple hasn’t officially unveiled the new MagSafe accessories yet, likely saving the surprise for the iPhone 17 reveal later this year. Until then, it’s worth keeping expectations in check, but it’s hard not to get excited about the potential of blazing-fast, cable-free power.

Only Apple could make charging exciting again. Let’s just hope they don’t sell the charger separately… oh wait
