Apple is reportedly preparing a major upgrade for future iPhones, which could include an advanced dual autofocus system designed to eliminate blurry photos and offer superior focus speeds. Currently, iPhones rely on a single infrared projector to focus, but even with that, sometimes photos come out blurry. The new system will introduce dual lasers that fire together, allowing the iPhone to calculate the distance between the subject and the sensor more accurately. If both lasers detect similar distances, the camera will lock focus instantly. If the readings vary, it will switch to the single autofocus mode, ensuring that you don’t miss the moment.
Moreover, this dual autofocus setup will improve image quality by tackling common issues such as glare from glass, water, or reflective surfaces, ensuring clearer photos in tricky lighting or through obstacles like vehicle windows. It’s a system designed to deliver superior results, even when you’re not able to manually tap to focus.
While Apple hasn’t officially confirmed if this new autofocus system will be included in the iPhone 17, the concept described in the patent is compact, making it ideal for smartphones.
