Marvel fans, get ready for a new spin on Iron Fist! The upcoming animated series Eyes of Wakanda is set to surprise MCU enthusiasts by featuring a version of Iron Fist you’ve never seen before. 
While the character has long been associated with the 2017 Iron Fist Netflix series, it’s time for a fresh approach.
The first episode of the series premiered on June 9 at the Annecy Animation Festival, where director Todd Harris shed light on some exciting details. The series will be an anthology-style narrative, with four 30-minute episodes that span two hours in total. The plot will take viewers on a time-hopping adventure, exploring various periods and a covert mission involving stolen Wakandan technology.
The opening episode, titled Into the Lion’s Den, kicks off in 1260 BC, introducing us to Noni (played by Winnie Harlow), a former Dora Milaje warrior with a complicated past. Her pursuit of the pirate leader Lion (Cress Williams), who has stolen Wakandan tech to build his own kingdom, sets the stage for this action-packed series.
But what’s most intriguing is Harris’s revelation that Iron Fist will play a key role in this story-although not the Iron Fist fans are used to. While some might expect to see Danny Rand return, Harris suggests this is a completely new take on the iconic character. This is an exciting opportunity for Marvel Studios to revitalize Iron Fist’s character with a clean slate, possibly leaving behind the mixed reception of the previous Netflix series.
The character of Iron Fist has a rich history in the comics, with a legacy that spans across centuries. The anthology format of Eyes of Wakanda may be the perfect way to explore new dimensions of Iron Fist’s story and expand his legacy in the MCU. Finn Jones, the actor behind Danny Rand in the 2017 Netflix series, has expressed his eagerness to return to the MCU, saying he’s ready to prove the critics wrong and redeem his portrayal.
Despite the divisive reception of the Iron Fist series, Jones remains hopeful for a comeback. He acknowledged the criticism but urged fans to give him another shot, stating he’s “here and ready” to prove himself. With Daredevil’s return to the MCU, many are wondering if the MCU will revisit The Defenders, which could pave the way for Iron Fist’s return as well.
Eyes of Wakanda will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting August 6, 2025. This could be a game-changer for Iron Fist and his place in the MCU.
