Google’s upcoming Pixel 10 lineup might be disappointing for fans hoping for major upgrades. Ironically, the most anticipated new feature – a telephoto lens – could be the one that causes the most frustration.

Rumored for months, this addition to the Pixel 10’s camera setup comes at a much higher cost than expected, according to a report from Android Headlines. Although this report reveals some exciting specs, it also underscores potential letdowns.

The Pixel 10, expected to launch in 2025, will feature a 6.3-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,000 nits of brightness. Powering the device is the new 3nm Google Tensor G5 processor, paired with 12GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB and 256GB. The 4,970mAh battery supports 29W wired and 15W wireless charging. While the display and battery specs seem competitive, the Pixel 10’s camera setup may raise eyebrows.

The primary rear camera remains a 48MP sensor – the same as last year’s Pixel 9a. This is a downgrade from the Pixel 9’s 50MP camera, which may disappoint those expecting a leap in image quality. The secondary 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens is another downgrade, especially since it replaces the 48MP sensor found on the Pixel 9. The biggest disappointment, however, may come from the new 10.8MP telephoto sensor, likely borrowed from the Pixel 9 Pro models. While better than previous telephoto options, it’s still nowhere near the 48MP periscope lens found on the Pixel 9 Pro.

Other notable specs include a slight increase in battery capacity from the previous model, though the Pixel 10’s screen size remains the same. The OLED display is set for a brightness bump, but there’s no change in resolution or refresh rate. With no major changes in storage configurations and only minor tweaks across the board, Google’s Pixel 10 might not be the major overhaul fans were hoping for.

The Pixel 10 is expected to retail for the same price as its predecessor, starting at $799 in the US. The 256GB variant could go for $899, while the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL may start at $999 and $1,199, respectively. While these prices aren’t confirmed yet, an official announcement on August 20 and a commercial release on August 28 are highly anticipated.

The OLED display sounds cool, but honestly, I care more about the camera!
