The bumbling detective is back – sort of. The first full trailer for The Naked Gun reboot has landed, bringing Liam Neeson into the slapstick spotlight as Lt.
Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen’s iconic character. Channeling his action hero energy from Taken, Neeson hilariously plays it straight amid absurd chaos.
This time, the Police Squad faces shutdown unless Drebin Jr. solves a bizarre murder case – which also involves cleaning ovens and triggering a prison break. Pamela Anderson joins the mayhem as a femme fatale who’s both seductive and strangely domestic. Yes, she’s seen vigorously scrubbing Neeson’s oven in one of the trailer’s most WTF moments.
The humor is exactly what you’d expect: brash, absurd, and completely self-aware. Neeson’s ‘I’m a little schoolgirl’ routine from the teaser returns, and we get a wild moment where he opens fire in a restaurant just to skip the bathroom line. That’s followed by a classic Naked Gun-style twist: he accidentally sets off a jailbreak without even realizing it.
Supporting cast includes Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Liza Koshy, Danny Huston, and WWE’s Cody Rhodes. And yes – the infamous O. J. Simpson gag is back, as hinted in the earlier teaser.
While some fans of the original franchise are skeptical, this reboot is clearly aiming for the same unfiltered, anything-goes comedic tone that made the originals cult classics. Whether Neeson’s deadpan delivery works for a younger generation or just fuels nostalgia for the old-school fans, one thing is clear: The Naked Gun hasn’t lost its taste for ridiculous.
