Lords of the Fallen has now surpassed an impressive 5.5 million players, as announced by developer CI Games. The milestone was shared in a post on X, where the studio celebrated this achievement, stating, “Mounstead burns brighter than ever, with over 5.5 million Lampbearers worldwide. Your fierce loyalty, feedback, and passion have helped shape Lords of the Fallen into what it is today…and the exciting chapter that comes next. In light, we walk!”
The game, which launched in October 2023, initially struggled with a less-than-ideal reception.
Early reviews were less than glowing, with Wccftech’s Francesco De Meo criticizing its lackluster experience. He noted, “I was disappointed to see how the game failed to deliver an enjoyable experience. Some die-hard Souls fans might find enjoyment in the 35-hour journey to save Mournstead, but for others, the game’s flaws would likely outweigh the experience.”
However, since its rocky start, CI Games has worked diligently to improve the game. Numerous updates have been rolled out, including a major update dubbed ‘2.0,’ which De Meo described as a “massive improvement” when he revisited the game earlier this year. This update has helped boost the game’s standing among players and critics alike.
Lords of the Fallen was also added to Xbox Game Pass last year, which may explain why the 5.5 million-player milestone doesn’t correlate directly with copies sold. Many of those players likely experienced the game via Xbox’s subscription service rather than purchasing it outright.
If you were a fan of Lords of the Fallen, despite its initial shortcomings, there’s even more to look forward to. CI Games announced a sequel to the 2023 title last June, with Lords of the Fallen 2 set to release sometime in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While no specific release date has been revealed yet, fans are eagerly awaiting what’s next.
