The second developer beta of macOS Tahoe has arrived, bringing some important tweaks and bug fixes. For those eagerly awaiting the next update for their MacBooks and Macs, this new release delivers a handful of changes. First, Apple has reverted the Finder app icon to its original color scheme. In the first beta, the icon’s colors were oddly swapped, with the blue on the right and the white on the left, which didn’t sit well with many users.

Thankfully, the second beta brings the icon back to its original design.

Another small but noticeable change is the redesign of the Migration Assistant app icon. This new version features a refreshed look, making it feel more aligned with macOS 26 Tahoe’s design language. Speaking of tweaks, a new option has been introduced in the System Settings: “Show menu bar background.” For users who weren’t fans of the new Liquid Glass style for the menu bar, this option lets you return to the frosted background style from previous versions of macOS.

Perhaps the most interesting addition in this update is the ability to enroll your AirPods in beta testing for firmware updates directly from your Mac. By connecting your AirPods and navigating to the Bluetooth menu in System Settings, you’ll now see an option to enable beta firmware updates for your AirPods. Simply click on the (i) symbol next to your AirPods, scroll down, and toggle on “AirPods Beta Updates” to receive the latest experimental features.

Aside from these notable changes, there are also a few more minor tweaks sprinkled throughout the macOS Tahoe update. A new Recovery Assistant feature has been added, which was first seen in iOS 26. Early rumors suggest that Apple Intelligence may now work by default when booting macOS Tahoe from an external drive, although this feature hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. Previously, users had to configure this manually through the Terminal. However, it’s unclear if this feature will be fully functional in the second dev beta.

Overall, macOS 26 Tahoe’s second developer beta is a step in the right direction, with more enhancements expected in the coming months. Developers can start testing it now, and the first public beta should be available in July. The official version is slated for release this fall.
