The update will be rolled out automatically to affected phones, ensuring that even if users try to avoid it, the fix will be applied once the device hits 400 charge cycles.
Pixel 6a users are not yet sure how many devices will be impacted, but Google assures that not every phone will require the update. However, those who do need it will be notified in the coming weeks. It’s important to note that although the update will reduce battery life, it’s a necessary step to prevent the risk of fire and other dangerous overheating issues.
Pixel 4a owners experienced a similar situation in the past when their devices were found to have overheating problems. Some received free battery replacements, while others had to face mandatory updates. In the case of the Pixel 6a, it’s unclear whether free replacements will be offered to affected users.
