Marvel Rivals is turning up the heat with the launch of Season 3: The Abyss Awakens on July 11. This cosmic-themed update introduces Phoenix as a new Duelist hero and unveils the haunting new map, Klyntar: Celestial Husk. As Jean Grey fully merges with the Phoenix Force, she sets out on a galactic crusade to eliminate a corrupting darkness festering at the edge of the universe.
This storyline adds narrative depth to the game’s chaotic battles and aligns with the game’s alternate Mosaic (Space) Timeline.
The new Klyntar map draws from Marvel’s darker lore – specifically, the decaying corpse of a Celestial slain by Knull. Its massive remains rain down onto the symbiote homeworld, creating an environment that’s both visually eerie and strategically challenging.
Season 3 also promises gameplay upgrades: four new Team-Ups are being introduced, alongside a fully revamped mission system and a deeper customization layer for accessories. Plus, a brand-new competitive mode will launch mid-season to keep PvP fans on their toes.
Another surprise: Blade will slice into the roster later this season, bringing vampire-slaying flair to the battlefield.
Marvel Rivals is going all-in on community engagement. Verified university students in select countries (US, UK, and more to come) will gain access to rotating costume trials – 10 costumes and MVPs per season – after email verification. This initiative adds an extra layer of personalization for younger players.
Looking beyond the screen, Marvel Rivals is headed to San Diego Comic-Con from July 24 to 27. The Marriott Marquis will host exclusive demos, panels, and giveaways. The highlight? A deep-dive panel on Friday, July 25, titled “Marvel Rivals: Hero Creation from Concept to Showcase”, offering fans an inside look at how heroes come to life in the game.
With seasons now scheduled every two months, Marvel Rivals is evolving into a fast-paced, ever-expanding arena where lore, cosmetics, and competition collide. Season 3 feels like a bold step toward making this hero shooter more than just a game – it’s becoming a universe of its own.
